The SpaceWire Brick allows the user to easily connect their PC to a SpaceWire device or network. It connects to the PC through a USB port, and has two SpaceWire ports on the opposite side. The unit contains a non-blocking routing switch using the same technology as the STAR-Dundee Router IP Core which allows the user to route SpaceWire packets through any of the three ports (2 x SpaceWire, 1 x USB).
Sending and receiving SpaceWire packets from the PC is made very easy with the SpaceWire Brick’s host software. STAR-Dundee’s Validation Software and CUBA Software are both included with the device. Although easy to use, these programs have many advanced features to offer the user flexibility and control over the device. For further operations a technical API is also provided with the SpaceWire Brick, which includes example code for a test program to help users get started. For more information on the included software and drivers, check the Document Details tab below for datasheets.
The SpaceWire Brick is light and portable, and draws its power from the USB connection so there is no need for an additional power supply. There are multi-coloured LEDs on the SpaceWire connections to help users quickly understand the link’s current status.
