SpaceFibre Interface FMC Board [Preliminary]

The SpaceFibre Interface FMC Board provides an easy way to connect a dual-lane SpaceFibre interface to a host system with the FMC Board handling the SpaceFibre electrical interfaces and SpaceFibre IP core. This board allows users to add a SpaceFibre Dual-Lane link to their system operating at speeds of up to 6.25 Gbit/s (2 × 3.125 Gbit/s). Eight Virtual Channels VC0–VC7 and the Broadcast Interface (BC) are supported with a streaming AXI4-style interface to the host. An SPI slave supports advanced configuration and status.

The SpaceFibre Interface FMC board contains a Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA, power supplies, a programmable clock, a pair of SpaceFibre connectors and status LEDs; an HPC FMC connector connects to the end user’s system. The FPGA contains a SpaceFibre Multi-Lane IP core, and a parallel data transfer system for the FMC interface.

An Access IP core is also provided with the board to hide the complexity of the FMC data transfer system. Its user interface is based on the SpaceFibre IP core with an AXI4-Stream for each Virtual Channel for transmit and receive. This makes it easy for a design initially interfacing to this FMC board to be subsequently updated to interface to a STAR-Dundee SpaceFibre Multi-Lane IP core embedded in the users’ design.
