STAR-Dundee’s 20th Anniversary

It was a momentous occasion earlier this week for STAR-Dundee as we celebrated our 20th anniversary!

Started in 2002, STAR-Dundee was born out of the Space Technology Centre at the University of Dundee, which led the technical work on the SpaceWire standard, something which staff at STAR-Dundee have been instrumental in for more than 20 years.

We are very proud to be a world leader in both SpaceWire and SpaceFibre technology.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our talented and dedicated employees at STAR-Dundee for making our success story possible.

And to the valued users of our products, we express our thanks to you for trusting us for many years and making us the leader in our field.

We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and drive us to extend our track record of innovation and success.

Here’s to another 20 fantastic years!

Executive Assistant and Electronics/FPGA Engineer Roles

To meet growing demand for our technology and products, and to aid in our continuing growth, we’re seeking to recruit several new employees.

We’re looking for an Executive Assistant to assist our CEO in day-to-day activities and in several areas of importance to the company. These include promoting the company’s products and technologies internationally, supporting the company’s employees, and growing the company’s relationships with suppliers, partners and the local community. This role’s open to people with a range of backgrounds including science, engineering, management, marketing and legal. A scientific/engineering background would be helpful but isn’t essential.

We are also looking for several engineers with backgrounds in electronic circuit board, FPGA or ASIC design. These engineers will work on chip design and/or unit design, contributing to the development of new products and technology for spacecraft applications. We’re looking for people with at least two years’ industrial experience and with a 1st class degree or equivalent experience.

The successful candidates will be based in our office in Dundee, Scotland, a renovated 19th century town house in the heart of Dundee overlooking the Tay estuary.

As well as being a leading supplier of spacecraft on-board network technology and electronic test equipment, STAR-Dundee is an employee owned company, with over 50% of the company shares owned by an Employee Ownership Trust on behalf of the employees. Staff are represented on this Trust and on the Board of Directors, and also benefit, when there’s a dividend payment to the other shareholders, with a tax-free bonus.

Further details on the vacancies, including detailed job descriptions with information on applying, can be found on our Vacancies page.

Easily Rack Mount STAR-Dundee Products

We’re aware that many users of our SpaceWire and SpaceFibre products mount these in 19″ racks and we’ve seen many different approaches to achieve this, with some products more suited to rack mounting than others. To make it easy to mount STAR-Dundee products in a 19″ rack, we’ve now introduced the Rack Mounting Kit Mk2, which can be used to mount many of our products in a 19″ rack. The kit includes all the blanking plates, bolts and nuts required to mount your products. There are also fastening straps provided to hold down any power supplies and for smaller products such as the SpaceWire Brick Mk3 and SpaceWire Isolator, device mounts are provided.

The full list of products supported by the Rack Mounting Kit Mk2 is provided below:

New STAR-Dundee Website Live!

Following considerable development, we are delighted to announce that our new website is now live!

The new site has separate sections for SpaceWire and SpaceFibre, where we hope to be able to answer all of your questions on these technologies. We will be adding more content in future and are always happy to receive suggestions for improvements. Please contact us if you have any suggestions, questions or encounter any issues with the site.

We are grateful to Dundee-based Graphic Design and Web Development team Kin for their efforts on the site and the design of our other marketing materials. With Kin’s assistance, we have been working to adopt a consistent theme across our website, brochures, banners and other marketing material.

In conjunction with the release of the new website, we also plan to send out news update e-mails approximately every 6 months with information on the latest SpaceWire and SpaceFibre developments, and shorter e-mails to notify users of software and firmware updates for products they have previously registered on the website as these updates become available. If you have an account on our website, you can opt in or out of either of these e-mail types from your Account details page. If you don’t have an account, you can register your products on the Product Registration page of the Support section of the website.

For anyone who had an account on our old website, this has been transferred over to the new site, although you will need to update your password. You can do this by selecting the Lost Your Password link on the My Account page.

All the features of the old site are present, with the updated Support section making it easier to navigate to Product Updates for STAR-Dundee products. There’s also a dedicated page listing the events we will be attending this year if you’d like to meet us.
